Welcome to Mr. Justin Turpin

While an official start date has yet to be determined, Mr. Turpin has shared the following information for publication on this website:

I really look forward to meeting everyone at EF.  I will let everyone know my exact date as soon as I get permission to be released at my current school.

A native of Pittsburgh, PA and a graduate of Plum Senior High School, I graduated from Edinboro University of PA in 2005 with a degree in Music Education.  Strangely enough, I started my college career in Veterinary Medicine at Penn State University for two years before realizing music was my passion and then made the change.  While at Edinboro University, I was drum major of the ‘Spirit of the Scots Marching Band’ for two years as well as performed in groups such as Symphonic Band, Low Brass Ensemble, Brass Choir and Concert Choir.  I am a member of Phi Mu Alpha National Music Fraternity and the Order of Omega National Honors Fraternity.  I have been very fortunate that I have had the opportunity to travel and perform in countries such as France, Germany, Switzerland, Belguim, Austria and Luxemburg.

For the past 4 years, I have been the director of bands at Great Mills High School in Maryland.  I am responsible for our competitive marching band, jazz band, symphonic band and wind ensemble.  Last year I started an indoor drumline and indoor colorguard for the school.  Marching Band performs throughout Maryland, Virginia and Pennsylvania competing in the USSBA and TOB marching circuit.  Marching band has received numerous 1st place honors in both circuits and also has received a Best Band award in the annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade in Washington DC.  Previous shows include ‘Music of Chuck Mangione,’ ‘Cirque Du Soleil,’ ‘25th Anniversary of Michael Jackson’s Thriller,’ and this past year a complete original show entitled ‘Megalopolis: A City under Siege.’

Also during my time at Great Mills, the Marching Band went on their first band trip in many years with a performance in Disney World in 2008.  I also organized the very first Fine Arts trip to NYC last spring where the band, chorus, orchestra and theatre performed.

I am really looking forward to starting at Elizabeth Forward!  I look forward to meeting the students and the parents and look forward to getting to work there!
